Though how-to DVDs are rapidly growing, they still pose a huge challenge: with the Internet providing users the ability to download anything they want, how can you convince them to pay for your DVDs and wait for their arrival at their doorsteps? But if others can pull this off and earn millions in a year, then most certainly you can too.

Here are the most important steps to remember:

  1. Pursue your passion. We mean this. You can pick the saleable niche out there, but if you do not like what you are doing, you will easily lose the motivation. In DVDs, it is very important that your enthusiasm radiates through the screen, so your audience can pick up on it and feel it too. Moreover, if you are passionate about the subject, you will find all the means to obtain better, fresher information for your subscribers.
  1. Spread the DVD payments. Usually, how-to DVDs are sold in bundles. A client may obtain 5 to 7 DVDs all at once. However, $500 for all of them may be too much for them to shell out all at once. To encourage them to buy, consider dividing the payments across a number of months.
  1. Offer more. If you are really good at what you do, then there is really no need to give freebies or incentives to your buyers, but it makes your information products even more attractive. A common incentive is an exclusive membership site where subscribers can share their thoughts about the DVDs.
  1. Go beyond the content. To say that you need to provide your buyers with astonishing content is actually redundant. You ought to know that. What you may not be aware of is that you also need to give equal attention to the technical aspects of the DVD. For example, make sure that you produce quality videos. You do not need the most hi-tech cameras. In fact, a handheld camcorder can do the job. The images just have to be as clean as possible. Check the audio too and make sure it’s crisp and audible.
  1. Add some dynamics to your videos. Surprise your subscribers once in a while with interviews, music videos, or even flash presentations.
  1. Promote your website. Whenever possible include your website link in the video. It can be during your discussion or after the presentation. You can also print it on the package. This is a good way to advertise your other DVDs and perhaps even other products.
