One of the greatest things about being in an online business is that you can afford to be on the move—and not miss a thing. In fact, you can take your work with you, even when you’re hitting the most fantastic beach in the world. Your laptop, your mobile phone is all dependable business tools and the only things you need to run your business online.

Obviously, you will never run out of options when it comes to mobile phones, but a number of these phones have been designed with virtual businesspeople in mind. Here are some of the things you should look for in a mobile phone:

Wireless connection: After all, you are in an online business. There are different ways on how to connect to the Internet, such as 3G and WIFI. If you can have at least one of them that would definitely be great and sufficient.

E-mail Messaging: You can do away with the instant messaging service, but you should be able to access your e-mail account. Some phones have native e-mail apps, while others may require a thorough setup. Either one would work for you. What you should be concerned with is using one that gives you the ability to send and receive messages in real time.

Documents: Some phones allow you to work on certain files, as well as send them wirelessly. You can even have your own word processor and convert files to PDF format for easier attachment.

Good Rates: You can always decide to opt for a pre-paid plan, which means you pay for the mobile services ahead. The main disadvantage is that you may not be able to keep track of your balance, losing your connection while you are in the middle of a very important conversation. It’s therefore wise to just be on a post-paid plan.

Nevertheless, you still have to be scrutinizing. Some companies charge so high for the service, you can hardly afford it or justify it You also have to factor in roaming fees, to name a few. In any type of business, even the ones online, you should always keep costs down and in perspective to the volume of business you’re doing.

Call and Text Quality: At the very least, the phone should allow you to make calls and send or receive text messages without a hitch. Otherwise, you may be stuck with the most useless gadget on the market.

Apps Downloads: Not all mobile phones have these capabilities, but it’s great if they do. A lot of apps are actually business oriented, such as mobile calendars, task list, and VOIP such as Skype.
